Munro is the lead artist for the inauguration of Jeju LAF, an outdoor art park showcasing immersive installations, sculptures, and event-based works that explore the medium of light, located on the volcanic island of Jeju, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.
Jeju LAF, opening July 27, 2018, will run through August 15, 2019. For it, Munro presents two large-scale installations, Oreum and Water-Towers, as a response to his experiences of the island during the project’s 5-year development: notably, its volcanic mounds, or oreum, and typically strong island wind. Joining Munro are artworks by Jen Lewin, Tom Fruin, Byungchan Lee and Jason Krugman. The first art park of its kind in Asia, LAF presents these artists to amplify and transform the landscape of the nineteen-acre exhibition site.
In 2015, Korea’s Public Art Magazine interviewed Munro about the project, read that article here.
